Leslie Marmon Silko is a poet and novelist whose works are often influenced by Laguna myths and storytelling traditions, emphasize the importance of traditional Native American culture, and discuss the difficulties of maintaining that culture in a white imperialist society. She was one of the first recipients of a MacArthur Grant and is an influential figure in the movement known as the Native American Renaissance.
