Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American author and abolitionist who wrote the bestselling 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Uncle Tom’s Cabin is credited with contributing to anti-slavery sentiment in the United States shortly before the Civil War and was voted #2 in the BBC’s “100 Stories that Shaped the World.”
