Amy Tan is an author who began her career in freelance business writing before starting to write short stories and eventually novels. Several of her works, including her celebrated 1989 novel The Joy Luck Club, focus on the relationships between Chinese mothers and their American-born daughters. Tan has also written two children’s books, one of which inspired a PBS animated series.
